Mohanlal Breaks His Silence On Hema Committee Report; ‘Don’t Destroy Malayalam Cinema, Those Responsible Would Be Punished’.

Amid MeToo row in Malayalam Cinema that created waves across the country, Mohanlal has addressed the media reacting to the Justice Hema Committee report. The actor who has been president of Association of Malayalam Movie Artists has recently resigned taking moral responsibility.

Mohanlal Press Meet On Hema Committee Report

On Saturday, Mohanlal addressed the media at a press event for the first time after the Hema Committee report that revealed several cases of s*xual exploitation and abuse of women in the Malayalam film industry. He welcomed the Hema Committee report and appreciated the government’s decision to release the report. The actor also urged everyone not to destroy the industry and not to blame everyone.

Mohanlal told the media “We welcome the Hema Committee report. It was the right decision by the government to release that report. AMMA(Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) cannot answer all the questions. These questions should be asked from everyone. This is a very hardworking industry. Many people are involved in it. But everyone cannot be blamed for this. Those responsible will be punished, investigation is going on.”

“We will cooperate in the investigation process. We are here only to set things right. I am not aware of any such power group. I am not a part of it. I have not read the Hema Committee report.”

Following his resignation as president of AMMA, many called out the actor for taking this step along with all the committee members. Mohanlal said “AMMA is not a trade union. It is like a family. It is unfortunate that the association is being hounded. The state of our Industry is better than other film industries”.

“I have also given my statement to the Hema Commission in my capacity as an actor and producer. I welcome the observations of the committee. The culprits should definitely be brought before the law. Other industries should also have a Hema Committee report. Let this be a significant moment in the film industry, starting with Malayalam Cinema”, the actor said as quoted by The Indian Express.
