Jyotika Opens Up About Her Experience In Bollywood Industry, And Why She Wasn’t Offered Any Films In 27 Years.

Jyotika is known for portraying powerful and impactful characters on-screen and has recently opened up about her journey in the film industry. We all remember her mind blowing performance in Rajinikanth’s Chandramukhi which is considered as one of the career-defining performances of the actress. Jyotika who was recently casted alongside Ajay Devgn in Shaitaan which also had R. Madhavan gave an interview to News18 promoting her upcoming film ‘Srikanth’.

Jyotika Talks About Her Career In Bollywood:

During the conversation, Jyotika opened up about her debut film in the Bollywood ‘Doli Saja Ke Rakhna’ with Akshaye Khanna and how she felt that the result of the film has affected her career in Hindi Cinema. This 1998 film directed by Priyadarshan didn’t perform well at the box office and the actress shifted her focus to the South industry. She said “I didn’t receive any offer from Hindi films even once. I drifted into South films 27 years ago and have only worked in South films ever since. My first Hindi film didn’t run well in theatres. It’s all very formula-based. Your first film needs to run for you to get more offers.”

She further added “When I had started my career, there was an entire bandwagon of girls working with big production houses. Even my film was produced by a big banner but as fate would have it, it didn’t run. Luckily, I had signed a South film and diverted from Bollywood ”.

For the unversed, Jyotika married Tamil actor Suriya in 2006 and now they are proud parents to daughter Diya and Son Dev. She said that when she moved to Chennai during her initial days in South industry, Bollywood felt that she was not interested in Hindi Cinema. “People in Bollywood also thought that I was a South Indian and they assumed that I don’t want to do Hindi films anymore. It was a journey, and I’m still grateful about it. I did some fabulous work there. It’s not like I refrained from doing a Hindi film. It’s just that I wasn’t offered any script in so many years”, she disclosed.

Jyotika’s Comeback In Bollywood After 27 Years:

Jyotika recently appeared in Shaitaan and received much appreciation for her solid performance. Earlier, talking about her role in the movie, she said “Shaitaan is very strong role-wise, content-wise and as a film, I feel extremely proud of it so definitely that’s what made me choose it.” Her upcoming film Srikanth is a biopic based on the life of Srikanth Bolla, a visually-impaired industrialist and the founder of Bollant Industries. He is the first international blind student in Management Science at the Sloan School of Management of Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The special screening of the film was held in Mumbai recently and the movie received good reviews from the audience. It’s not just a story to inspire us but also to showcase the struggles faced by Srikanth in the society. The movie is directed by Tushar Hiranandani and produced by Chalk and Cheese Films and T-Series Films. Apart from Rajkummar Rao and Jyotika, the film also has Alaya F, Sharad Kelkar, and Jameel Khan in important roles. It will be released in theatres on 10th May 2024.
